At the North Pindos National Park as we move from the lowland to the highland we come across the folowing vegetation zones:

Mediterranean temperate zone{AC}  The Mediterranean temperate vegetation zone or zone of oak (Quercetalia illicis), which consists of low scrub and oak forests (Quercus ilex), accompanied by other species of trees and shrubs, such as filyki (Philyrea latifolia), flowering ash (Fraxinus ornus) the yew (Quercus coccifera),ACBR juniper species (Juniperus communis and Juniperus oxycedrus), the Greek Strawberry Tree (Arbutus adracnhe) etc.

 This vegetation usually forms islets in most low and warm dry sites (400 - 700 m elevation) of the National Park, especially in the canyons of Vikos, Voidomati and Aoou.{/AC}FLuffy oak zone{AC}  The zone of fluffy oak (Quercetalia pubescentis), which is composed of thermophilic deciduous oak species , such as broadleaved oak (Quercus frainetto), the straight cortex oak (Q. Cerris), the Macedonian oak (Q. trojana) the downy oak (Q. pubescens), holly oak (Quercus coccifera) and other tree species ,  such as ostrya (Ostrya carpinifolia), hornbeam (Carpinus orientalis, Carpinus betulus.),ACBR the European cornel or dogwood (Cornus mass), South European flowering ash ( Fraxinus ornus) etc.

  This vegetation zone occurs at altitudes from 600 to 1.000 m, around most settlements in Central Zagori, in villages along Venetikos river and the valley of Kerasovitikos river.{/AC}Beech forests zone{AC}  The zone of beech forests , beech - fir and Mediterranean conifers (Fagetalia), which is composed of beech (Fagus sylvatica) and beech - fir forests of conifers Mediterranena such as hybrid fir (Abies borisii-regis) and black pine (Pinus nigra).

  This zone lies at elevations 900 έως 1.600 m, in Smolikas, on the northern slopes of Tymfi, in Vassilitsa, in Avgo, in Balces and Zigos, as well as in Central and Eastern Zagori. ACBR  It covers most of the Pindos National Park (Valia Calda), and its peripheral zone (forest Perivoliou, Cranias, Milias etc.).{/AC}Boreal conifers zone{AC}  The zone of boreal conifers (Vacinio-Picetalia), with unique appearance of this subarea of Robolis (Pinion heldreichii), in Katara areas, all around the tops of the warm valley - Valia Calda and Smolikas.

  This zone reaches up to 2.000 m, but is fractured and degraded due to intense and prolonged grazing during the summer, and Robolis tree cutting for timber(used to make barrels etc.).ACBR  In the valley of the National Park of Pindos ( Valia Calda ) , but also on the slopes of Mount Flega appear small populations of Scots pine (Pinus silvestris), which are probably remnants of the last period of glaciation.{/AC}High altitude zone{AC}  Finally, the high altitude above forest vegetation zone, which consists of herbaceous and shrubby vegetation, which stretches from the edge of the forest altitude (1.600 m) to the tallest peaks of the northern Pindos.ACBR  In these plant communities are also involved following distinguishable physiognomic vegetation types: the step-looking rocky grassland, plant communities of vertical limestone cliffs and limestone scree, that is the moving and relatively stabilized screes.{/AC}
